What is the Test Tube Baby?

Briefly, in vitro fertilization treatment can be termed fertilization of female and male reproductive cells in extracorporeal conditions.

In IVF treatment, male and female reproductive cells are kept in a suitable environment at body temperature for 48 hours. Fertilization occurs in about half of the eggs obtained during this period. These fertilized eggs are called the embryo (fetus) and the final target is placed in the woman’s uterus.

The embryos are placed into the uterus through a thin catheter (embryo transfer) from the cervix. The pregnancy occurs in approximately 50% of the women after these procedures. However, some of these pregnancies end with abortion. Approximately 40% of the couples entering treatment receive their children. This ratio can be as high as 70-80% for many applications. The remaining 20-30% can not have children today despite all the possibilities of modern medicine.

In vitro fertilization therapy is given to stimulate the ovaries of the woman with various medicines (Gonal-F, Puregon, Menopur, Fostimon)

In vitro fertilization is a treatment applied to women who can not conceive with classical methods. Embryos formed as a result of combining male (sperm) and female (egg) progeny cells under laboratory conditions are based on the principle of transfer of the uterus. Fertilization performed under laboratory conditions is achieved either by spontaneous (in vitro fertilization) or by single hand administration of the human sperm into the single egg (microinjection).

What is an embryo?

A male reproductive cell, a spermatic female reproductive cell, that is, a small living model that is formed by dividing and differentiating cells after egg fertilization. In the human race, 2 cells in the 24th hour after fertilization of the embryo reach 6-8 cells on the 2nd day and about 100 cells on the fourth day.

Catheter: A thin tube that can be inserted into the body cavity made of silicone,

this catheter is passed through the cervix. the embryos are transferred from there into the uterus. Embryo transfer is a painless procedure.

What complications can occur after test tube treatment?

In the treatment of IVF, various medicines are used for the development of the ovaries. The drugs used and the doses of these drugs are determined according to the characteristics of the patient.

However, for example, people with polydispersity over syndrome may be over-responsive to the drugs used. For this reason, the ovaries can be over-stimulated.

Twin, triplet, quadruped pregnancies – multiple pregnancies:
Multiple pregnancy is a very sympathetic phenomenon, but it is seen as an unwanted side effect in IVF treatment. In multiple pregnancies, the risk is higher for both the mother and the baby. Even in a variety of situations, the lives of babies and mothers are riskier. Increased number of transferred embryos in IVF treatment increases risk of multiple pregnancy.

It is the most uncommon side effect of IVF treatment. The risk of being seen is higher in OHSS patients. The incidence in IVF treatments was recorded as one.

Bleeding:
During the egg collection stage, the mothers can spot spotting bleeds. It is a common side effect. No treatment is needed. It will recover spontaneously as the egg collection phase takes place.

Infection:
Infection may develop depending on the egg collection process. But they are quite rare cases.

Injury in abdominal organs:
Damage to the abdominal organs during egg collection may occur. This situation is rarely seen when practiced by expert and experienced doctors.

Other problems that can occur in IVF treatment:

  • Despite the drugs used, the desired number of eggs can be developed.
  • Adequate eggs may not be collected. In this case, in vitro fertilization may fail.
  • Fertilization may not occur if the sperm and egg cells are not of good quality.
  • The embryo may not be able to hold the womb.
  • Treatment may be canceled due to such problems.
  • How can i determine my fertile period?
  • Your fertile period is the time during which having sex could lead to a pregnancy. This is the 4-6 days prior to ovulation (release of a mature egg from the ovary).
  • Women normally ovulate 14 days prior to the date of the next menstrual period.

A transvaginal sonography scan gives a great information regarding follicles, lining of uterus, presence of any fibroids, etc. Detailed semen analysis is done and at the same time it is stored. Hysteroscopy is needed where there is any abnormal finding in sonography.

Why IVF fails?

IVF fails mainly because of two reasons .One is due to quality of eggs and second is failure of implantation. These things may happen in natural pregnancies also, but as there is cost involvement in IVF, so it pinches. Quality of stimulation and quality of embryology matters a lot, but these can be corrected by taking stringent measures but quality of eggs and implantation is still beyond anybody’s approach.

How does age affect a woman’s ability to have children?

A woman’s age can be a major issue for reproduction because women never generate new eggs after they are born. All the eggs that a woman will possess for life are already present in her ovaries at birth. Due to the normal aging process, potentially unfavorable cellular and chromosomal changes occur within the eggs, resulting in Down Syndrome, miscarriages and overall lower pregnancy rates. We offer special fertility treatment strategies which may improve the outcome in certain cases.

Couples who can not have children despite regular co-operation, when should they go for treatment?

Examination and treatment should be started after 1 year, 37 years of age, or 6 months if there is a problem that may affect pregnancy formation in the past, if there is no problem that the woman’s age is below 37 ng and may affect the pregnancy formation in the story.
The test tube can be applied until the age of 44 years. However, after 42 years of age, it should be known that there is little chance.
